5 Things to Consider When Buying Educational Toys
Educational toys don’t necessarily have to be labeled “educational”, in my personal opinion. However purchasing toys that support areas where your kids are currently learning and developing is something to really consider when thinking about what you will purchase this season. Different toys certainly impact children’s behavior in different ways. Toys can influence children’s thinking, interaction with peers, and creative expression. Some toys have incredible design but are not particularly engaging. So how do you know what to buy?

Todays Readers Need Technology
Five Reasons Readers Need Technology
Literacy is the base on which learning is built—in school and in life. It provides a way to climb out of poverty, get a good job, and be a productive citizen. Helping the struggling readers in our schools to catch up is one of the most fundamental challenges educators face. Meeting that challenge is difficult for several reasons.
First, students who struggle with reading are not all developmentally equal. Some need basic phonics instruction. Some have comprehension and fluency issues. Some are only a couple of years behind. Some read at a below-basic level. Some have profound learning disabilities. Some are recent immigrants who speak little English. Teaching a group of students with such divergent needs is almost impossible, even for the best instructors.

Research
Parents often look at current toys and wonder, “Is this toy appropriate for my child?” Getting “inside the box,” and understanding the features and benefits as they align with the abilities of a particular child are huge challenges. Even professionals serving children with special needs often lack the time and ability to search for the best products and toys. AblePlay does the research during the comprehensive product evaluation and relates this information to children’s special needs and abilitie

Please visit the website of premier program Ready! for Kindergarten™ for further information on how you as a parent can take an active role in your child’s kindergarten readiness.
Have frequent conversations with your child. Reading is about language. Immerse your child in it. Talk often. Listen, and ask your child questions that require more than a one or two word response.

Creating a Tech-Savvy Kindergarten Classroom
Technology integration in the classrooms involves the use of computers and other electronic devices. It helps to motivate students and allows them to learn and share their understanding in fun and unique ways. When used properly, technology can be a tool that enhances and reinforces the curriculum, but, of course, try not to think of technology as a substitute for the teacher.
